Melbu
The village has around 2,000 inhabitants and overlooks the beautiful Hadselfjorden and the Lofoten Wall. It’s a vibrant place, shaped by its rich fishing heritage and home to the fascinating Fishing Industry Museum, located in a former herring oil factory.
It’s also the perfect base for exploring the region, with a ferry connection to Fiskebøl and scenic road links to Stokmarknes and beyond.
Hadseløya
Known as the "Pearl of Vesterålen", this island is dotted with peaceful villages and untouched natural landscapes. It’s home to Melbu and Stokmarknes, with its renowned Hurtigruten Museum. A selection of scenic hiking trails invites you to explore the island’s stunning mountains, which rise above the ocean and offer unforgettable views.
Bø i Vesterålen / Langøya
A remote, still little-visited place, but extraordinarily authentic: wind-beaten shores, brown cliffs, and massive colonies of seabirds. Ideal for experiencing the midnight sun in silence, with breathtaking ocean views.
Intense landscapes along the scenic coastal trail, where sea views alternate with important archaeological sites from Viking times, and artistic installations like the “Man from the Sea.”
Bø Museum at Vinjesjøen features exhibitions dedicated to coastal culture and the folktale writer Regine Normann, set in the old bailiff's house alongside a fairy-tale forest and charming rorbu cabins.
Andøya
The northernmost island of the archipelago features dramatic coastal landscapes and wild, unspoiled scenery. The 58 km Andøya Scenic Route winds through coastlines, marshes, and charming villages.
At its northern tip, Andenes is the gateway to renowned whale safaris and home to the Whale Museum and Andøya Space Center, Norway’s only permanent rocket range, with its “Spaceship Aurora” exhibition that brings the northern lights to life. Nearby, Bleik Beach offers kilometers of white sand and views of Bleiksøya, a key spot for puffins and summer ospreys.
